Kentucky Horse Farms lead to more than the Races
Once again, Lexington KY’s Keeneland Race Track is starting its Fall Season this Friday, October 7th. But Thoroughbred Racing is only the tip of the iceberg for what lies here in the Lexington KY area, known as the “Horse Capital of the World”. Altogether, Lexington KY’s Rural Service Area supports more than 21,000 local jobs related to it’s horse farm economy, according to a recent Lexington Herald Leader article.
Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton serve as two of the largest Thoroughbred sales agencies in the world, and attracted investors from almot 50 countires, with sales of over a billion dollars of Thoroughbreds. The Kentucky Horse Farms that make up this luscious “Bluegrass” country are not only beautiful to look at, but they do their part to contribute to a healthy overall economy.
Lexington remains at the center of this international horse-breeding industry and, according to this Sept 26 article, the average and gross sales prices within the Thoroughbred horse industry have increased 20 to 40 percent from previous years, even though projected foal crops are down. More Thoroughbreds are bred, foaled and raised in Kentucky than in all of the other U.S. states combined.
There’s no doubt about it driving anywhere within 30 miles of Lexington’s downtown area, Kentucky Horse Farms dominate the landscape and contribute in many more ways beyond the beauty that they create on the surface. Come visit Lexington KY and tour some of these amazing Kentucky Horse Farms yourself! Horse Farm Tour of the Kentucky Bluegrass Country should be a highlight of your Lexington KY experience!
