As I blogged about in early February, Lexington Summit is a new shopping mall planned on 60 acres south of Fayette Mall. The $155 million development is expected to open in two years. Here is an update on the new Lexington Summit:
Whole Foods is the first major tenant to announce they will be a part of the upscale shopping center. They signed a lease for a 40,000 sq ft store, possibly the largest single tenant in the project. Currently they operate a store in Lexington Green, which they will close when it is time to move to the new location.
Lexington Summit is being developed by Bayer Properties, which created the Louisville Summit, an outdoor mall where shoppers can park close to the store entrances. The Louisville Summit has a Mitchell’s Fish Market, Starbucks, Ann Taylor, Abercrombie & Fitch, Banana Republic, and many other shops and restaurants. The Lexington Summit will have more than 450,000 sq ft of restaurant and retail space plus more than 300 residential units. A five story hotel is also part of the plans. There will be twenty separate buildings with Lexington Summit being marketed as a destination to shop, live, dine and play.
Since stores won’t open for two years or more, you may wish to consider homes for sale in the area now– before the prices go up. Homes for sale within a mile of the new Lexington Summit (northeast corner of Man O’War and Nicholasville Road) range from $68,000 to $321,033. Here is a list of the area neighborhoods that currently have homes for sale:
- Magnolia Run
- Willow Bend
- Waveland Estates
- Manowar Village
- Belleau Wood
- Fox Harbour
- Bradford Colony
- Blueberry Hill
If you lived in these neighborhoods you would be just minutes from the shopping mecca of the Lexington Summit and the Nicholasville Road area. In many cases you would even be able to walk to the shopping and dining mecca.
