Now is the perfect time to visit Windy Corner in Lexington Ky. This adorable little country restaurant is set amongst the horse farms north of town. A popular sandwich shop at lunch, the eatery is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. It is owned by the renowned Ouita Michel, who is also executive chef at Holly Hill Inn, , and Smithtown Seafood. Diners line up to order -while gazing at mouthwatering desserts in the bakery case. Like everything else, the desserts are made locally, many in-house. The rotating lunch and dinner menu features soups, sandwiches, po-boys, burgers and salads. All the bread is baked fresh daily. Country offerings abound in selections such as cornbread served with baked beans, fried catfish, and pulled pork. But there are also many trendy dishes such as a super food salad, wild ginger salmon salad, steamed vegetables, and even tofu! Dinner specials change nightly and feature chicken pot pie, meatloaf, etouffee, shrimp and grits, and more. The breakfast menu has Belgian waffles, biscuits and burritos.
Windy Corner Market is about 20 minutes from downtown via Broadway. As you drive north, Broadway turns into gorgeous Paris Pike which will lead you into horse country. Turn right on Muir Station Road and look for the restaurant at the intersection of Bryan Station Road. The building looks like an old country store and does have a few gift items for sale such as sauces, jams and cook books.
Be sure to give yourself time while you are in the area to drive around the rolling hills of Kentucky horse farms. These are the Bluegrass hills that make Kentucky famous. People fly in from all around the world to see our magnificent scenery- and to drive along the amazing Paris Pike. If you would like to own some of this gorgeousness, I can help. While the most expensive horse farms are over $13,000,000 there are many others in a more accessible price range. A look at Kentucky Horse Farms for Sale reveals a few tracts of land ranging from 10 to 24 acres for under $200,000 as well as several farms with homes for $600,000 to $1 million. Most are in Lexington or within a short drive.
