Now is a great time get out and enjoy the Central Kentucky area with its famous rolling hills of the Bluegrass. Check out the great scenery that surrounds Lexington by taking a short country drive to a cute little restaurant called Wallace Station in Midway Ky.
From downtown Lexington head west to take Manchester Road which turns into Frankfort Pike as you leave town. You will past the up-and-coming Distillery District that is being re-purposed as an entertainment destination (click the link to read my blog about the Distillery District) and soon the urban landscape gives way to open countryside. And what a view! You’ll soon find yourself surrounded by iconic horse farms with beautiful rolling hills and picturesque barns.
In less than thirty minutes you’ll see Wallace Station on your right. This unassuming building is popular lunch destination. The restaurant is part of a handful of restaurants headed by renowned chef Oida Michael. Others include Smithtown and Windy Corner, both in Lexington, and Holly Hill Inn also in Midway. The eateries range from casual to formal and all are celebrated for their fresh local food and creative menu choices.
Wallace Station is a deli-style restaurant where customers line up to order and then the meal is delivered to the table. Be sure to admire the old wood floors and the charming interior– that is if you can tear your attention away from the mouthwatering desserts in the display case at the entrance! The restaurant is famous for its lunch options that include burgers, chicken salad, sandwiches and wraps. Many people don’t know that they are also open for breakfast and dinner. The dining room is small but there are ample tables outside facing a peaceful country setting.
This trip to the country might have inspired you to think about living in Midway. In fact, many locals will tell you they have the best of both worlds: all the benefits of rural living- with the conveniences of the city less than 30 minutes away.
Be sure to drive all the way in to Midway. You’ll see a picturesque historic town with a railway running right down the middle of it. It’s a charming town that is easy to love.
