Did you know that the nation’s largest custom halter shop is right up the road? If you haven’t been to Quillin Leather & Tack in Paris Kentucky, be sure to check it out. I found the leather products most interesting. If you are coming from Lexington, you will drive north on Paris Pike, one of the most scenic roads in the state. Passing by all those horse farms will get you in the mood for visiting the shop, which is just south of downtown Paris.
Quillin has been around since 1982 and carries a full selection of horse supplies including brushes, shampoos and ointments. Their main business is the over 20,000 halters they sell each year, most of them with custom brass nameplates. But they also carry a lot of handmade leather items that are not horse-related. Some of these products include belts, pet leashes and collars, and a variety of leather book covers. These covers are designed to be used for appointment books, three ring binders, passport and checkbook covers, and business card holders. They would make great gifts, as would the leather purses and wallets. The staff will attach a personalized brass plate to anything you buy- and you can even bring something purchased elsewhere to be customized this way.
After you visit Quillin Leather and Tack in Paris Ky, be sure to keep driving north to see the downtown district. After you see the picture-postcard historic Main Street, you’ll know why Paris is such an easy town to fall in love with. Situated just 20 minutes from Lexington, and 15 minutes from Georgetown and I-75, this Bourbon County town has a population of about 8,000. Residents of Paris enjoy rural country living with the conveniences of Lexington, Georgetown, and the Interstate within easy reach.
