Have you been to Caldo in Lexington Ky?

Nothing beats a hot bowl of soup after being out in the cold all day. There are some great places to get soup in town including Caldo in Lexington Ky. This new business that opened last year is part of a big nutrition craze that’s all about bone broth. People in LA and New York are drinking it for better health and there are even broth stands in Central Park. Regular consumption of broth is claimed to help your joints, strengthen your bones, improve your complexion, and build better immunity.

I think it’s cool that Lexington is in on this hot new trend! Caldo serves their broth in a cup so you can drink it as you would coffee or other hot beverage. Flavors include chicken, beef, miso, and ginger with the option to add extras such as chili oil, lemon, fish sauce or tomato paste. You can get your broth cold or even in a smoothie. You’ll also find salads, granola and coffee on the menu with everything centered around the intention of harnessing the healing powers of whole foods. Caldo is locally owned by a well-known chef and caterer who also owns Wild Thyme, a popular gourmet cooking shop.

The broth shop is located in the booming Warehouse Block shopping district just east of downtown. This recently renovated area is full of small locally owned businesses including National Provisions French bakery, market and beer hall (formally National Boulangerie), Designs Unlimited Jewelry, a trumpet maker, Breakout Games, Locals bar, and many more. Click these links to read previous blog articles about these businesses.

If you lived in any of the nearby neighborhoods you could walk to the gym, bakery, as well as the other shops. Neighborhoods within a half mile of Caldo in Lexington Ky include Kenwick, Mentelle Park, Bell Court, and Ashland Park. Most homes in the area are bungalows and brick houses about 100 years old. There are also some new townhouse condominiums being built near Warehouse Block. Click the links to see current homes for sale then contact me to learn more.

Breakout Games in Lexington Ky

Have you heard about Breakout Games in Lexington Ky?

Just when I didn’t think Lexington could get any cooler, along comes yet another exciting new venture. Breakout Games in Lexington Ky opened in December and my guess is they will be wildly successful!

Breakout Games is in the entertainment and team building business where the object is to escape from a room. Three to eight players are given clues and have one hour to break out. Contestants look for objects and solve puzzles while working together in their race against the clock. In the Kidnapping Room, players begin the game blindfolded and handcuffed to a bed. In the Derby Room, the race is on to retrieve the Kentucky Derby trophy from the home of a thieving veterinarian. The company has three specially equipped rooms and are adding more. All games are monitored live with video cameras. If players get stuck they can ask for three clues- but will have time deducted from the clock for any additional ones. Play is $20 per person.

I blogged about this district a year ago and even the New York Times wrote about it  just last week! This walkable area is close to several neighborhoods and convenient to downtown. An Exciting Time for the Kenwick Neighborhood

The auction was an exciting time for the Kenwick Neighborhood

I attended the auction of this unique contemporary house in Kenwick last week. Located on Richmond Road at the corner of Richmond Avenue, this two-story 3000+ square-foot home is a real head-turner. The three bedroom, three and a half bath home is ultra-modern inside…with a twist. The main level features an abundance of white clad windows, a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, a sleek and minimalist design…and historic barn wood floors. There is a catwalk from the second floor leading to the bonus room atop of the detached two-car garage. There were over 20 registered bidders in attendance for the absolute auction, along with least 40 bystanders, neighbors, and other interested parties.  My role was to represent and advise one of my clients who was a registered bidder.

The bidding, managed by Biederman Auctioneers, started out around $300,000, stalled at about $500,000 and then heated up until it was going….going…. GONE at $570,000 (plus the 10% auctioneer’s commission on top of that). I was pleased that the winners were a Lexington couple who had fallen in love with the house. Currently living in Chevy Chase, they planned to make this home their permanent home while raising two school-age children. Congratulations and welcome to Kenwick!

Kenwick Community Garden Workday!

Two days later I was helping out at the annual Community Garden start-up to help prepare the beds and plant the seeds and seedlings for the Kenwick Community Garden. It was the perfect sunny spring day, and about a dozen “Kenwickians” turned out to turn over the soil. In just 2 1/2 hours, the beds were all prepped and planted! Many thanks to both Sara Constantine, one of Kenwicks neigborhood anchors, and Ryan Koch of Seedleaf.  This non-profit organization, started as a part-time venture back in 2008 by Ryan, now exists full-time to help “nourish communities” by assisting with projects such as the Kenwick Neighborhood project.

If you’d like to learn more about this up-and-coming neighborhood, feel free to browse the homes for sale in Kenwick, as well as the other great neighborhoods in Lexington.
